The German Horst P. Horst moved to Paris to follow the
teaching of Le Corbusier. He frequented the art-loving bourgeoisie and met
Baron George Hoyningen-Huene who directed the Vogue studios. In 1931, at the age of 25, Horst, taught by
Hoyningen-Huene, produced his first shots for Vogue France then for the American edition the following year. When
war broke out in Europe he went to the United States. At the end of the ‘30s and
at the beginning of the ‘40s, Horst was prolific. He was a studio photographer, enjoying
preparing his shots meticulously. He was very influenced by Greek sculpture.
