This series is composed of photographs from the 1950s-60s. They were mainly taken by American tourists in New York. The period corresponds with the Golden Age in the United States. These photographs mirror an America which was powerful and modern at the time. American citizens, become anonymous photographers, ‘constructed’ images which had great resonance with the American Dream. These photographs are consistent with what could be imagined of a country at the leading edge of innovation. Fashion, design, architecture and even the energy which stands out gives an impression of ultra-modernity. The anonymous photographed the symbols of success with pride.

Since 1997 the collector André Robé has bought slides from the personal archives of private individuals. It was not enough for André Robé to simply buy and collect. He built up sets of carefully thought out images. Stylistic coherence, combined with iconographic research, formed a corpus raisonné. In turn, the collector André Robé created a body of work akin to it. He saved photographs, lost in the oblivion of the privacy of people’s homes, which became icons.
