Quand je serai...

Villa
About this photograph :
Quand je serai...
For Gianni Villa, Dinard represents a timeless place. This beach resort sought after by important people in this world since the first half of the 19th century prompts a direct emotion from the artist. Like one of Proust’s madeleine cakes, the beach reminds him of his childhood and his own family holidays. If Dinard’s listed villas, as well as the ramparts of Saint- Malo, are immediately recognisable on these photographs, the beach games and the feeling of tranquillity are universal. It is also the timeless character of the games and holiday delights that the photographer is trying to reproduce. He strives to represent the innocence of childhood, the exhilaration of wide-open spaces and the excitation of a lifetime ahead of them. These photographs also express the simple pleasures of existence such as walking barefoot in the sand or feeling the wind in your hair.
About the artist :
Gianni
Villa
Gianni
Villa strides along the beach with the song, «Les vacances au bord de la mer», (Holidays by the Seaside) by
Jonasz in his head. He observes the walkers, the children playing. He is
carried away by his imagination and souvenirs submerge him. He reveals black and white images to us
and, thanks to a tilt shift lens, he isolates his subject. Gianni Villa invents
existences and sentiments for the protagonists that he photographs.
